Venture down an alley in the Warehouse District to find two great oaken doors. This is the portal to Prohibition Era-themed live music venue, Speakeasy. Opened in 1997, Speakeasy caters to the expanding population of high-tech professionals and locals alike. The upscale atmosphere and Prohibition theme offer something new and different to the Austin music scene.
Inside, the decor is plush and beautiful. You'll fall in love with the antique tables on the mezzanine and the claw footed, red-felted pool table in back. Or climb the stairs to the Evergreen Terrace, where you can take in a spectacular view of the downtown skyline or an awe-inspiring sunset vista to the west. Perhaps it's the lush surroundings that inspire the clientele to put an extra polish on their attire. Get into the Speakeasy spirit. Dress up, jazz up a little. You'll feel as though you fit right in to the 1920's decor. Check out the specialty drinks menu for some refreshing new libations, or order a classic. The bar is huge, but cozy, with comfortable stools and rows of shining liquor bottles. Or choose a table by the stage to get a close-up view of the evening's featured musicians. |
