Paradox

311 East Fifth Street
(512) 469-7615

Paradox is the club that became famous through its crazy foam parties. If you haven't been, then you're missing out. Over the last year it has changed its name from Paradox to Enigma and just recently (July 01) back to Paradox again.

The History behind Paradox:

Located at the corner of 5th and Trinity in downtown Austin, Texas, the structure that Paradox now occupies was originally two separate buildings that shared a common wall. Built at the same time in 1912, the building at 311 East 5th Street was made to house a mercantile where the town of Austin could purchase tools and sundries. The building at 517 Trinity was used as a blacksmith's shop.

With the advent of the automobile, an enterprising group of people bought both properties and used the corner structure as a gas station, while the rear was used as a storage garage. This concept remained until early 1991 when it was renovated into "Trinity" nightclub.

Trinity utilized the rear half of the building while the front was used as a huge open air deck. Trinity closed in late 1992. The property was then purchased by Paradox. Construction began in September 1993. The common wall was knocked out and the entire building was enclosed to form the structure you see today. Paradox was built to be the biggest, most advanced, and safest nightclub in Austin.

On February 16th, 1994, Paradox opened their doors for the first time. K.C. & the Sunshine Band played to a sold-out crowd. The next month, we saw Missing Persons and Blondie. Ever since then, Paradox has hosted crowds of up to 3,000 people a night. We are going on our 7th year and still going strong.
